  Just returned from a long weekend camping trip here (stayed in a camper) and it was awesome! Let me start by saying my husband booked the campsite and if I had gone from reviews I may have not booked here in the first place... however it was so much better then expected. Keep in mind that this is camping and not a resort so those complaining about no wifi/service, dirty restrooms etc need to loosen their expectations. The bathrooms were actually fine in my opinion (and I can be picky)- the showers are the type where you have to hold the string down for the water to come out but if you attach the string to the hook it will stay down. As far as the service/wifi -there is only wifi up by the the little store at the front; which actually was kind of nice. You can go up there and sit for a few and check your phone then put it away and enjoy "getting away". Try to book in advance and ask for the creek front sites! So beautiful waking up to the water each morning. The little bear does visit from time to time but keeps to him/her self- stay at a distance and there is no problem. Enjoy!

  Ive been coming to Phoenicia for over a decade, from the first time i came to Phoenicia Black Bear campground i felt i was in the right place. The owner George and his wife are extremely cool and laid back they make your stay as humble as possible. Campgrounds offer RV, Overland, Tent camping availability with great locations right on the Esopus creek. The convenience that the office / camp store offers ( firewood, ice, tarps, any last min emergency supplies etc.) they have it all. The main town of Phoenicia is a football fields walk from the campground which holds good restaurants, country store, ice cream shop etc. i will be coming back year after year (phoenicia is my escape from NYC).

  This is our favorite campground. The owners are fantastic, friendly and extremely helpful. If you want a natural camping experience next to a great rafting river, this is your spot. Within walking distance to all the local cute shops and really good restaurants. Expect bears which makes the experience even greater, and remember you’re staying at Black Bear after all. We will be staying here all the time next camping season!
