I tried to access this place a while ago but was not allowed. When I heard it would be open for car show I was all in. This property is a huge campus with many buildings of which two are set up for visitors as museums. The museums were informative with multiple displays behind glass and police vehicles.
A big display was devoted to the Lindbergh case however it left out some of the doubts regarding Hauptmann’s guilt that surfaced.
The display of both police cars and street cars was impressive. In addition police boats, including an airboat, a helicopter and a large trailer for police operations were on view. There were also a few officers on horses. The food trucks and set up of picnic tables was easy access and comfortable. I’m not sure if the crowd was minimal due to the event or the fact that several local community and craft fairs were on the same day. Regardless, I was quite happy not to have to deal with a large crowd. There was a nice display of merchandise and I was happy to buy something since the event itself was free.
What a great place to add to community service curriculum for home schoolers. It showed the beginnings of the troopers and how they have changed over their 100 years. We saw crime lab equipment, polygraph machines, uniforms, training, K-9’s and our favorite- vehicles!! Land, sea and air!! The cabin had a barracks from the 1920’s. There is a tribute wall with troopers who died in the line of duty and a wall of all the commanders who served from the start. Their was an electric chair and information from the Lindbergh case. There are tribute pavers that we loved to read. Make sure you go through the security gate- I thought the gift shop on the left before you go through the gates was the museum (and it said closed) so it created a few minutes of confusion and a few curse words!!
Outstanding! This is an awesome display and history of the NJSP. The entire history from 1921-2021 is represented. As a life long resident and proud supporter of blue, this visit to this special place is one for the books. TYFYS and for keeping us safe Troopers! Stay safe
