The Mill Preserve is located on the north side of Route 20 (Riverton Road), west of CT-181. At the time of my visit, I was able to park alongside the road, near the entrance. There is no bathroom or trashcans.
The blue-designated trail is well-blazed from the right fork of the lower loop, up until three-quarters of the way through the upper loop. As the preserve was recently opened, the trailblazing may be a work in progress. Snap a picture of the map from the kiosk, as it is easy to lose track of your location. Be especially careful along with the Lower Brook and Beaver Pond areas of the preserve, as some of the blue tree markers are missing. And yes, there are beaver lodges at the pond.
The day was breezy, so no bug repellent was needed. The tree canopy is dense, so tall grass for tick hiding was minimal. The trail is safe for children, but not very accessible to persons with disabilities.
Kudos to the Hartland Land Trust for making this space available for public use.
