We underestimated just how gorgeous Kaaterskill Falls are.
We went on my birthday. Visited the lookout first and it poured on us. Ridiculous amount of rain that deterred others at the falls from staying. So as they were leaving, we took the trek up the stairs and down the trail to the falls with less people there.
Absolutely stunning. You get misted as if you're standing in the rainforest. Serene. Peaceful. And we will definitely visit again!!
HEAVILY trafficked hiking area. Maintained and easy to follow paths. Signs posted. Gorgeous views of the falls. Not for the unhealthy as there are a LOT of stairs.
One of my favorite places in Upstate New York. My husband proposed to me there. Captivating views at any time of the year, and yes, in winter too. The waterfall consists of two stages, 231 feet high, made of stone stairs to safely climb to the very top. But if you like extreme sports, then there are places where you can test your sports training and climb straight up real rocks. In summer, you can swim at the lower levels of the waterfall. Spend time in nature, admire the beautiful view, enjoy the sound of the waterfall and nature.
Great place for trekking with family. It is about half a mile. The water falls looks beautiful and you can enjoy the view from two different places. There is a parking space for cars. If you are planning to visit on long week end etc. you need to park on private place on the road itself and they charge $20 and then ping walk.
It's a beautiful hike down to the lower falls. They have a parking closer to the deck but We started our hike from the rail trail which is an additional 1.5 mile hike. It's a old rail road i assume. It's flat and an easy hike. The lower falls trail is a little steep at the end. When we went the ice was still there and the steps were slippery making it a little risky but when you reach the bottom it's all worth it. It's beautiful down at the falls.
Restrooms are at the parking lot only and many people did walk the dogs to the bottom. Only thing missing was a picnic area.
This half-mile trail with a moderate climb & creek leads to the scenic 260-ft. Kaaterskill Falls.
