  We saw 2 black bears! One at the waterfalls high mountain summit and another on the hike back down to buttermilk falls! Also saw a vulture, a snake, and a deer! May 27th 2023

  Very local and easy to access. Great place for a family outing or dog walk. I normally hike the red trail which takes about 45 minutes each way. Defiently stop at the summit and take in the view of Passaic County. Limited parking available. Beware of snakes!

  Went hiking here in August for the first time. Took about an hour to get to the summit via the Yellow Trail from the Reservoir Drive entrance. It's a great place to hike but be aware that this section of the Yellow trail is mostly covered in stones and boulders all the way up, so you'll spend a lot of time looking down and watching your steps. Make sure you wear some good sturdy hiking shoes. Rocks can be slippery sometimes. The views from the top are spectacular, although on this particular day the view toward Manhattan was a bit hazy. Planning to go again soon and try the other trails. Make sure you get the free trail map from the New York New Jersey Trail Conference web site.

  Really fun hike with kids. Had kids ages 4-12 on they hike. They all did really well and enjoyed it. Saw some wildlife too, including deer, squirrels and other animals. Made it to the top by the solar panels and light star. Trail is marked well for red but yellow is a little less marked. We made a wrong turn coming back on yellow because the trail marker was only visible from the other direction. Figured it out quickly and turned around and got back into red trail to get out. Fun little day hike for sure.

  Beautiful preserved wilderness in Wayne County. I hiked the yellow trail to the summit. Great view. The trail up can be rough toward the end. Be careful hiking after rain, watch your footing and pay close attention to the tree markers. The path itself is not clear in some parts, I had to backtrack a bit to find the tree markers twice. Look ahead to spot them frequently. You will see them on rocks sometimes on the ground also in some parts.
