Came here for a fancy date night. I was looking a tasting menu type place and noticed that Xixa had a 10 course menu for only $55?! I figured that is an absolute steal, and the drinks look bomb as well so i reserved it right away.
Turns out not only is the price great, the food is stellar as well. You get many unique fusion dishes, usually Mexican or Central American with interesting European and Asian twists. The quantities are very good too given the price! We left pretty full. My personal favorites might have been the chicken wings or the duck liver foie gras, but everything was tasty and different. The desserts were both fantastic too, I knew I’d love the chocolate churros but the rosemary flan was even better.
The ambiance was perfect for a date but the larger tables would work for friends too. Our servers were SUPERB and one of the highlights of the experience. We never had to ask for anything or flag anyone down, the whole team was super on top of everything. Plus, they described each dish very well and made the tasting menu experience better.
Overall, strong recommendation as one of the best tasting menu experiences in NYC.
I’m quite disappointed about the chef’s tasting menu. I was hoping to at least what’s available for that day, but I feel it totally depends on what the kitchen is cooking for that day, maybe equally what other tables are ordering. There are one or two dishes that I find good and special, but others are not worth it at all. And overall the seasoning is too simple and the dishes are too normal to call it a chef’s tasting from my perspective.
This restaurant had all the right vibes, service and food experience! At first I was unsure if I trust the tasting course options, was afraid for the price that maybe it’s lower because few courses are more unpopular or fishes I’m not favored in but I’m super glad we actually got to try their Tasting Course and also got drink called “Midnight in Paris to pair so well with it. The drink was well presented and balanced in slight sweetness and amount of liquor, with floral petals in it.
This is what our tasting course consisted of, in case you wanted to order a la carte (or extra to take home HEHE)

- Grapefruit guacamole (4/5)

*** MY PERSONAL FAVE!! —> Foie Gras Al pastor (10/5) 🤌🏻✨ (I’d get this x10 and eat it all myself, if my ♡ allows)
- Grilled baby carrot “elotes” (5/5) - surprisingly one of our favorites also!!!
- Artichoke fundido (1/5) - personally way too oily and non-appealing for my taste palate
- Tempura fish tacos (2/5) - no flavor in the tempura, sauce didn’t do much, not too crispy
- Spicy confit organic chicken wings (3.5/5)
- Garlic butter octopus ‘en su tinta’ (4/5)
La Familia (DIY self serve tacos)
- Five spice ‘confit’ 1/2 duck (4.5/5)
Desserts
- Dirty chai tres leches (4/5)
- Apple cider churros (2/5)
Great Mexican fusion restaurant. We ordered the chef choice and omg there are so much food we can’t even finish it and had to take out. The vibe was great and the food was great with reasonable set menu price. Truly a gem.
Go with a group and get the tasting menu! That simple. Everything was incredible - I don’t even like fish but the Japanese red snapper tacos were delicious. I left feeling full but not overstuffed - can’t wait to go back!
