This visit was definitely enhanced by the docent on site. She's a retired teacher. Her depth of knowledge and ability to convey it in a creative and exciting way is exceptional. Her use of figurative language enables one to visualize the elements of the story behind this home.
This mansion was literally saved from ruin by the organization that's currently caring for it. It seemed like everyone there was a volunteer, including on-site painters. I highly suggest visiting this site, even if it's just to pay admission to play a small part in keeping the history of this American home alive.
Ventfort Hall is stunning! I went for a Tea and Talk Lecture. Buy your tickets in advance if you go to a Talk. The one I went to was packed. The tea afterwards was delicious and very casual. It’s like a buffet style tea.
The house has a rich history and lovely architecture. The gift shop is very pretty and well laid out.
The staff and volunteers are wonderful! They are friendly and clearly work hard.
The audio guide is online and free. Make sure your phone is charged and bring headphones.
Really cool, historical mansion that has been lovely restored. Looks like they have a bit more work to do as many parts are closed off. The entrance fee was on the high side. Our family of five ran >$50
This is a short drive from the Capital Region and a shorter drive off the Mass Pike(with a few winding roads). You enter the mansion via the porte cochere and behind the drape you pay for a ticket. My tour guide Kim was awesome and you get the history of this home and how it is has made wonderful restoration progress from it's 1997 dilapidated state. It's short, this is a Gilded Age wonder on the inside full of interesting tidbits. Follow their social my media page for special and scheduled events.
We went for a ghost tour of Venfort, first of all the restoration they are doing and keeping it as original as possible is amazing, the fire places, woodworking and detail put into this home by Sarah and George Morgan that had it built was amazing. I loved learning about the house, the people that lived there and possible spirits that still wander. The host was amazing, you can really tell when someone takes pride in history and preservation of not only the structure but the families that called the mansion their home. I did come away with some photos that had some extra “features”
