Without a doubt one of the nicest places we have stayed at. The place is immaculately taken care of. Our breakfasts were absolutely perfect. Also we were able to restock our pantry with homemade jams by Marie.
The setting is wonderful and the service great. The breakfast was the best. Freshly laid eggs from the chickens on the premises and honey directly from the bees onsite. Hard to be fresher than that. I would stay here any time I return to Amherst.
We stayed at the Black Walnut to celebrate our anniversary. Amazing staff, great food, awesome location. Really enjoyed our time and highly recommend to anyone considering a trip to the area.
We had our puppy with us and therefore had to stay in a room designated for dogs. Although the room was clean the carpets had countless stains probably from previous dogs. Marie greeted us when we arrived and prepared a lovely breakfast including eggs from the chickens which roam the property. She was very sweet to give me cookies and jam as it was my birthday. Because we were the only ones staying there, she sat and conversed with us during breakfast which was lovely. We learned about the history of the Inn and the renovations her son made to the property. It was one of the more expensive inns we stayed in during our 16 day trip because of the $50 dog fee that I felt was much higher than any other Inn we stayed at. It is a college town but most students had left for summer break so it was easy to find a spot to grab dinner. I think when school is in session, it might be a different story. Off street parking, beds were comfortable, hot water was plentiful, some street noise.
We were only in town for a night but we hope to return on a future trip. Marie made a delicious breakfast with homemade bread and delicious omelets. The Inn also makes their own jams which were yummy. We enjoyed the company of the other guests as well.
