The parking lot is a good size and free of charge, I got there on a Friday 1pm late October there were only 3 cars there. As someone else commented, the big loop is a hard trail... Some climbing and you are mostly walking on boulders almost the entire Jessep Trail. Easy to get lost if veer off to see some of the views like the Megaliths. You have to pay attention since a lot of the parts are not well marked, especially at the beginning of the white trail. There are a lot of rocks and cairns that were placed strategically throughout that were helpful. Be prepared if doing the big loop, it took me a almost 6 hrs.
Beautiful easy hike and this was my first time, you do need to cross a little creek\river depending on what time of year you do it. Bring water proof sneakers, boots or shoes for the circle \U trail. Make sure you check yourself and shim you accompany on risk trail for ticks every good 10 mins. They seem to use the wind to their advantage and get to you.
Parking lot holds about 30 cars. No bathroom facilities, no entry fee. Trail markings are not the greatest. Download a map or take a picture of the map at the Trailhead. Bring enough water and wear hiking boots. It's very rocky. Bring plenty of bug spray!!! Not crowded at all even with today's great weather.
Steep hike, but fun, took a couple of hours. Sharon’s bench is in the about 25 minutes in and a creat place to take a break and have some water. This trail was uphill pretty much the whole way 😂. Great view from the top! From the parking lot we walked up the hill, toward the railroad tracks, turned right where it splits, crossed the road and went through the small trail entrance.
This is a lovely place for a hike. We followed the red trail, from Otterkill Road, until we reached a wooden bridge over a stream. Very peaceful.
