I have a young child who developed a stutter and a doctor told us it would pass, let's wait it out etc.. Many months went by and there was still no improvement with my child's speech. The stutter wasn't just "going away." I have a family history of stuttering so my motherly instincts told me to explore this concern further. I'm glad to have done just that for my son.
Dr. Arlyne Russo is a gem of a clinician! I found her after doing an exhaustive search for speech language pathologists in the area. I came to realize that there are few SLPs who are willing to treat or feel competent in the area of stuttering.
What a relief it was to find Dr. Russo. She has a breadth of experience with stutterers (more than 40 years!) and has a wonderful way of engaging your child. She is supportive and attuned to the concerns of the parent, which is so important when dealing with a concern like stuttering. She models techniques and gives honest, yet warm and professional feedback. I feel empowered having tools to use when my son stutters.
My son is speaking more fluently and with fewer "bumps" as a result of treatment with Dr. Russo. My husband and I are astounded by the improvement of our son's speech.
