New York Cancer and Blood Specialist

  I was a bit disappointed with the visit I had yesterday. I have been a patient here and really like Dr. J and the staff but things were a bit disappointing yesterday. For starters, there were too many people coming, going, and waiting. Those who were in the waiting room were not following rules and as a licensed security guard I am aware of what is happening around me and although I would have gladly fixed the errors, I am not employed by New York Cancer and Blood Specialists. One man sat with his mask under his nose, another kept taking hers on and off, two men removed their masks to hold a conversation, three people from one family were standing, talking,and rubbing something on the man's face (whom they were with.) I was called in rather quickly for my blood to be drawn but I have a fear of this and never have my blood drawn before my visit (especially when the girl is holding five tubes.) I usually have it done in the room after meeting with the doctor. I explained this to the young girl who went and explained it to her supervisor who did not sound thrilled with the situation. I was asked to have a seat back in the waiting room and there I sat and sat and sat. The wait was very long. I was finally called in and met with someone who took my vitals. She was very nice and we had a good conversation. I was informed that the doctor would be in soon. I waited and waited and waited and then....someone walked in but it wasn't the doctor. She introduced herself and stated that the doctor was running behind so she was going to help out. Um, what? I have nothing against her and she was very sweet but that is not who I had an appointment with and I should have been informed of the situation beforehand. She was kind, friendly, and knowledgeable I want to stress that it was not her error but I feel like this could have been handled much better. If I purchase a car and then go to pick it up and they bring me out another car which is nice but not what I want, one would be a bit perplexed and unsatisfied. I then mentioned the "blood situation" and she said that she would have someone come in to take my blood. A young man (dressed in adorable holiday attire) was sent in and attempted to take my blood but my blood stopped coming out. Yes, I admit that I am horrible with this but instead of another attempt they handed me a prescription and said that I can go to a lab that I am comfortable with. I felt like most of the visit was a mess. From the patients not following the health guidelines to the wait times; many of their systems need to be reviewed and repaired. I know that we are in the middle of a pandemic and everyone is doing their best but communication is important and I felt that there definitely could have been some improvement in this area.
