Wonderful and clean State park! Excellent Visitors center! Well marked trails! A couple of waterfalls to travel to! Some long hikes to Rainbow Falls and Gertrude Nose are worth the trip!
This is for me the top State Park in NY state. Besides the breathtaking scenery from the mountain top, the ice caves and waterfall are superb. There are many vegetation types which makes it interesting to go along the trails. The park has paid parking, it is well maintained and signage is present where necessary. Visitor's center is great and has a map handout you can take. Please beware that the Ice Caves loop can be hard for some and for pets.
This park has something to offer at any time of the year. During nicer months enter early or you might not get in. It has limited parking given the number of visitors it sees. Exceptional when the abundant laurel blossoms in June! Great and plentiful hiking from easy strolls to long intensive hikes. Also boasts a new visitor center and multiple waterfalls.
We drove in not knowing what to expect and not dressed to hike but enjoyed our visit so much!
The land and views are breathtaking.
We walked to the lake closest to the visitors center and it is amazing. They have a beach there and there were a number of people swimming in the lake.
We even saw a porcupine up in a tree near the lake!
You can spend an hour here or days so much to explore. We are definitely going back. We want to hike to one of the falls to see that.
There are 2 lakes, lots of waterfalls and countless vista's to discover.
The visitors center is accessible by car and there are great views right from the parking lot.
The first lake is just a short stroll on a gravel path and a pretty easy walk. We did it in flip flops and it was no problem.
If you are in the area it is a definite must see.
Entry is $10 per car.
This is the best place to hike and roam around in nature in upstate New York. I was so fascinated by the atmosphere there in my recent visit.
In order to enter to the park we need to pay $ 10 parking fee and then the workers there will show you where to park your vehicle. There are restrooms near to both upper level and lower level parking lot. In the upper parking lot there is visitors center along with the facilities of drinking water with small sitting area.
There are lots of hiking trails in that park along with wonderful waterfall near to the parking lot. There is small river which mixes up with waterfall and flows down along. There are lots of picnic spot in that area. But be aware of rattlesnake in the trail area. We can sit near to river and enjoy our food since the water flow is low.
Near to lower level parking there is vending machine for water and sodas but the prices are twice or thrice than the normal price in city . So it is better to bring your own food and drinks than paying in high prices. Also there is no restaurant nearby so its better to bring own food if you are planning to spend whole day there.
Near to upper parking lot and visitor center there is lake which is so wonderful. We wanted to do boating but they said we need to bring our own in order to do that. We can buy some chips in visitor center also. Basically we can walk from lower parking lot to upper parking lot since it is located nearby.
When we visit there last time, they didn’t let us to go to upper parking lot from lower parking lot. And we were told to exit the park and enter again which led us to pay 10 dollars more so beware of that. Also it is hard to get parking space in busy day.
Overall this park is great and good place to escape from crowded city.
