I love this neighborhood I’ve cream stand. It’s such a great Kingston and Hudson Valley tradition. The choices can be overwhelming but more reason to come back again and again. Try getting a simple soft serve flavor like vanilla or coffee and mixing it with sprinkles or fudge. Also don’t sleep on a simple ice cream soda/float. That’s usually my go to.
Micky’s was a stop on our Coney Island to Canadian border ice cream challenge!
I had a vanilla strawberry twist sundae with whipped cream and a strawberry on top!!
I was impressed with the fresh, homemade strawberry topping. It was a treat.
Good ice cream, I think the strawberry twist in could have been better.
Really nice atmosphere. I really liked the ice cream cone garbage cans. Nice touch.
For sure, one of the better stops on our journey.
I haven't been to Mickey's Igloo in a long time. We have been to quite a few ice cream places all over the country as of late. One observation is how expensive they can be. Mickey's Igloo is by no means inexpensive. It cost us over $13 for a small and large( not the largest) size Razzle (Bizzard by Dairy Queen) But to be fair, Dairy Queen isn't inexpensive either. So in our case, they were quite expensive. But other ice cream options may have been more reasonable.
The Razzle (sp?) were quite good though. Unlike Dairy Queen where the Blizzards have gone from what the Razzle still is, to basically ice cream with a small amount of candy additive towards the top. Mickey's Razzle had, in my case. Reese's Peanut Butter cup chucks through out mu Razzle (sp?), to the last bite. So maybe the price isn't all that bad considering.
Better yet, Mickey's uses a quality cream for their ice cream, which gives it a noticeably good flavor. We honestly have been sampling ice cream all over the country lately. Few, if any had as good of flavor as our Razzles did.
We found that with a few food items across the country. Bagels, pizza and ice cream all seemed to lack as we were in other parts of the country. I'm not saying the ice cream was bad elsewhere. But quality cream makes for a better product. Mickey's was very good. Expensive? yes. But it was good.
Mickey's serves many treats and food items. So as I said, the prices on other items may not be all that bad. Mickey's has trash can's that add to the environment. They look like ice cream cones. So it makes for a more fun and back in time ice cream stand. They also have a kids area, where the kids can play.
A down side of kids and Mickey's is the road is close and one should keep a close eye on the little ones. It can be daunting just trying to back out onto the road to leave, if you park in the front of Mickey's. So parking on the side may make leaving a little easier for some folks.
Mickey's Igloo has been around for many decades. I went waaaayyyy back went I was a kid. Although everything changes. Mickey's is still mostly what they have always been. The small little ice cream stand that provides great treats for the warmer part of the year. Yes I obviously recommend them. Although keep in mind, they may not be as inexpensive as some folks may lead you to believe.
My Aunt used to live in Alexander Yosmin Tower on Broadway, from 2010 to 2017, and I used to take my Mom to visit every summer for a few days. Both of them, in their 80's, grew up in Kingston, and I've going there for 50+ years. Every time we visited, I brought them to Mickey's for ice cream. They both ate sundaes like they were starving! Plenty of napkins, and 3 full bellies! Best ice cream around. Unfortunately, I've lost both of them, but am looking forward to returning. Will DEFINITELY be stopping in for the best in Hudson Valley. Always friendly service, large portions, and super quality. Can't wait!
Old school ice cream joint serving up a cool menu of snack food and delicious treats. The prices are fair and the service is good. Nice play area for kids as well. Will be back for sure. Many different flavors of soft serve. The also have walking tacos.
