  As a volunteer, I’m very grateful to be apart of such a rewarding program. The barn is always filled with happiness and the instructors are awesome!
  They display such patience and kindness to every rider while creating new learning games to keep everyone engaged. I see the progress and confidence in every rider increase weekly. I feel lucky to witness each and every beautiful proud smile and that becomes my therapy. The horses are beautiful, calm and patient. It’s a win win for me.

  Our daughter, Madelyn, has been part of Making Strides for two years now, and the experience has been wonderful for us all. Firstly, Maddy loves riding. She sits up tall and proud on her horse, looks forward to the exercises and the chance to trot. With each visit she gains skill and confidence and now is trusted to safely handle her horse, "All by herself." For us parents, it's an opportunity to step back and let her be independent in a way that is good for her as well as us.
  
  Madelyn struggles with focus, social interaction, impulsivity. Physically, her troubles are with coordination and stamina. The simple, direct relationship of horse to rider is helping her with the messier human world. Handling a horse requires that you develop and maintain concentration and an awareness of the other. Human interaction demands the same. Directing the horse uses voice, hands, posture, feet. The rider must plan and time her actions, must react to the horse and pay attention to the instructor. Therapeutic riding has been a wonderful tool, addressing Maddy's difficulties.
  
  Making Strides instructors, volunteers and horses are wonderful. The lessons are well thought out and tailored to her ability. She's kept safe. The horses are gentle and patient. There's a large pool of volunteers who support the lesson, usually one on lead while two more assist alongside to be sure Maddy stays in the stirrups. It's quite something to see, Maddy trotting on her horse with a team of three jogging along! Every lesson, there's a lot of joy and smiles all around - Maddy, the instructors, the kind volunteers, her parents.

  We love taking our son here! Kim and her staff are amazingly sweet! The horses at all her locations are great, the views are beautiful and the entire staff is so friendly and accommodating! Her therapeutic program is top-notch we highly recommend it for individuals with developmental disabilities like our son.

  Kim has been so amazing and patient with my mom, who is currently living with early Alzheimer's. We both grew up around horses and in 4H, so it was a real treat to find Making Strides, and get back to being around horses. My mom and I love every second of our grooming sessions with Kim. She is truly dedicated to what she provides for her clients and we love her!!

  Being able to volunteer and give to the community is empowering. It confirms that life is not just about making money and doing favors for something in return. Caring for others is a responsibility we have in this beautiful planet. The mental and emotional benefits: volunteering out of loving and wanting to help others has no price. Making Strides allows me to continue the journey of volunteering and giving to those who need our support, compassion and understanding.
