  Gayle is a gifted therapist who I feel incredibly grateful to have as a colleague and consultant. Gayle's approach to therapy is anything but conventional and incredibly effective. She is creative, playful, compassionate and incredibly wise. Gayle collaborates with her clients to identify clear goals for treatment and works hard to help her clients achieve those goals. One of the things I respect most about Gayle is her ability to create a safe environment in which her clients can begin to heal and thrive. Whenever I have referrals in New York I send them straight to Gayle without hesitation.

  Gayle Sturmer is a clear-eyed, no-nonsense, super -present & good-humored therapist who will pare down & customize the therapeutic process to fit your true needs.
  The phrase ‘breath of fresh air’ might belie the training and gifted insight Gayle Sturmer brings to her work. She is a sophisticated , highly skilled, emotionally attuned and exceptionally effective therapist.
  Gayles expertise is in trauma -treatment ( why I sought her services) & a key factor in what distinguished her from other referrals.
  For me, at 56 with a history of decades-old “diffuse trauma” (for which I was treated & from which I had felt largely, if not completely, recovered) it felt especially unreal to be experiencing so much heartache & psychic disruption when I landed in Nyack. On the heels of engagement, a major relocation, and only 5 months of cohabitation I was blindsided by a Jekyl-Hyde partner who set in motion the blindsiding & abusive events that eventually led me to Gayle. Even tho months had passed, i still felt entangled and disoriented— I also felt ashamed somehow that I was s struggling to process what had actually happened.
  I felt as if I’d been run over by a monster truck.
  As an accomplished professional woman with many responsibilities, the disorientation became debilitating despite my determination and drive for joy and a happy healthy life. Everything -even getting dressed in the morning, seemed arduous; job responsibilities which had always delivered joy and inspiration suddenly felt like the weight of the world.
  Unable to recognize- let alone interrupt-the looping thought attachment to the pain of the people places and things connected to the traumatic split, The fuzzy thought that I might be experiencing some kind of PTSD relapse led me to contact Gayle. I wanted someone to name “it”, give me disorientation a title , an professional explanation, a label - or so I thought.
  I wanted to know what was wrong with me.
  Luckily, Gayle Sturmer wasn’t interested in spending our time together putting a naming on it ; she wasn’t interested in titles or labels, or my long narrative history of woes.
  She was ready to get to work , if I was.
  
  There are at least two big, wonderful surprises you are likely to encounter w this therapist: She will get you right to work in a long first session, applying techniques designed to rapidly clear trauma-loops (techniques with which I had zero prior familiarity) The other utterly unexpected gift was how distinct and lasting the clearing was following that first long session.After 7 months of daily sobbing, that next day it was 11pm before I realized, I had not sobbed that day. Nor have I sobbed ever since — more than a year later.
