The experience I had with Francis and Jessica was exceptional! With the combination of great service and a quaint shop, it creates an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming.
Francis Morris is truly an expert at his craft. I purchased my cello from him many years ago and though it was a reasonably priced student cello, it has brought me through college earning my cello performance degree, and will continue to serve me going forward. Francis has always taken utmost care with my cello, and uses his many years of craftsmanship and intuition to adjust it for producing its best sound.
There is never a time that I am happier playing my instrument than after it has been cared for by Francis.
I highly recommend Francis Morris Violins for anyone who wants a fellow artist to work on their string instrument. His prices are also very fair, especially for the amount of dedication he puts into each project.
If you are not happy with how your instrument feels/sounds, Francis will adjust it accordingly until you are 100% satisfied.

Excellent quality and care! I came in to have some work done on my cello and Francis spent a lot of time working with me to get me everything that I wanted. I’ve been playing on it for a week since I got it back and I am thrilled. I highly recommend him!!
Francis Morris has worked on my daughter's cellos over the last 10 years. We live near Albany, and have found the trip to Great Barrington and Francis Morris well worth the time. (He does have an office in Albany on Wednesday nights.) Francis is a master at bringing an instrument up to its greatest potential, and has been great at working with us to quickly resolve emergency repairs. Not only does he do high quality repairs, but he also has a large stock of fine instruments available for purchase.
Francis in my experience is an exceptionally insightful violin luthier. If you have a cheap chinese instrument you can take it anywhere for repair work but if you have an instrument worth preserving and want it done correctly, he is the guy. I can see why some people with no experience of a professional shop might be put off, not so much a reflection on him as them. My experience of him is that he is very straightforward, honest and knowledgeable. As always you get what you pay for.
