I had a charming time dining at Flames; they have a great space and good food.
The atmosphere: was really comfortable. They have an ample dining space and bar, which is classic exposed stone.
The staff: was kind, and we had a good waiter. He’s the definition of your classic old-school waiter.
The food: was quite delicious. I had the pasta Fagioli soup and short rib pasta; both were tasty, and my party also enjoyed their meals.
Cleanliness: was as expected, no issues.
Been here once before for drinks only. 1st time having food. Holy smokes! The service was IMPECCABLE!!! They knew what you wanted before you actually did! Michael Rugova must be known for this as the service at Goodfellas is the same! We were given fresh bread & good quality olive oil for dipping. Started w/their calamari & asked for the balsamic and marinara dips on the side to try. Both were excellent. Calamari was cooked well, not chewy at all. Got the chicken milanese. It was very flavorful, juicy & the breading was not overcooked or greasy. The arugula topping was great, fresh & not over dressed. Also got the chicken piccata which came w/mashed potatoes & sautéed garlic spinach. Everything was super delicious, except the texture of the chicken was "weird". Hard to explain, but the mouth-feel of it was like it was boiled, which was a bit off-putting. The piccata sauce was buttery & lemony. Make sure you save some bread for dipping! Yum!! Spinach had just the right amount of garlic - not overpowering, but flavorful. Potatoes were creamy, but lacked some seasoning. We were offered a complimentary taste of their either their homemade limoncello or Sambuca - picked limoncello & it was outstanding! Just enough "zing" that you know it's alcohol, but still very drinkable, sweet & lemony. Finished off w/creme brulee & limoncello cake. Brulee was great - velvety smooth, but I wish the inside was a bit warmer (personal pref) - oh, I still ate the whole thing, don't worry! The cake was very good too. Wasn't heavy & almost tasted like the lemon cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. Slice was a little small for $10, but still yummy. I can't stress enough how great everything was, especially the service! Please give Flames Restaurant a try, you won't be disappointed...we weren't!!
A similar yet new vibe to the old, much beloved Republic Kitchen. Thankfully we made reservations as we witnessed a few people walking in without a reservation and not being able to dine here, the restaurant was packed! The service was fantastic, pleasant attentive wait staff and innovative takes on cuisine. The cowboy steak was a definite hit and the crab cakes on point. Limoncello & another digestif were offered on the house. A wonderful dining experience!
I'm not sure about the haters, but my friends/family and I visited Flames last night and was blown away. I have a very picky 13 year old and Mike personally came over to speak to us to accommodate absolutely anything we could want. This made for a VERY happy teenager! The service throughout the night was spot on and we all tried a few different dishes... each one better than the next, right down to dessert!
The fried calamari was fresh and crispy; the melt in your mouth kind- and the seafood salad (a special menu item), which could've been a disaster, was AMAZING! Others in my group ordered Italian staples and they truly enjoyed them. My food came out hot, quickly, and was incredible.
For dessert, we tried several items. I opted for the Creme Brûlée. I think the picture speaks for itself!
If I lived closer I would frequent more often, but I was with others from the area. However, I will definitely make a point to return to Flames. The hospitality there was unlike anything I've yet to feel in a NY restaurant. Great Job guys and best of luck!
