I have been studying with Erik for 6 or 7 years now. He has the breadth of knowledge about different styles (jazz, bossa, rock, rudimentary drumming, etc.) as well as a very good understanding of how to teach people efficiently. I have applied some of the learning tricks he taught me to learning piano and trumpet, with good results.
I've been taking lessons with Erik for more than 5 years. He's not only an amazing musician, but he's also a magnificent teacher. One of the best teachers I've ever had in any subject.
He understands the progression curve for learning drums very well so he can always find something challenging but achievable to help you grow regardless of your level.
I would definitely recommend Erik to anyone who are interested in learning drums. I have been learning from Erik for more than 3 years (accumulated), in-person and virtual. Erik is knowledgable, professional, a great drummer and a wonderful teacher. He is so experienced in teaching that he always knows how exactly to explain things, and provides different approaches to acquire a skill. I am having a lot of fun drumming and learning.
I've had many music teachers over the years, but none whose teaching style resonated with me like Erik's does. I've been taking lessons with Erik for over six years and have learnt so much in that time. Erik's teaching style has a continuity to it that I love and when I look back over the years of taking lessons with him I can see a clear path from where we started to where we are today.
I've always had the dream of being able to jam with other musicians, but I never managed to move beyond learning music like a parrot, but with Erik's guidance I now feel comfortable sitting behind a drum kit and jamming with friends and other like-minded musicians.
Been studying with Erik since 2017 in person and (since 2019) online. I've had several music teachers in my life, and Erik is truly a *great teacher*. He always knows how to get me unstuck, and keep me on a path to progress. And he can take my random current musical interests and merge it into the lessons in a way that aids rather than hinders pedagogy.
Also, it doesn't hurt that he's just a lovely person to hang with.
