  This note is written for people, like me several years ago, who are:
  
  1) are considering purchasing a ZeeBaaS reel,
  2) have searched the internet for comments about the company and its products,
  3) are a bit confused by the wide range of reviews.
  
  The ZeeBaaS company has had prior owners, but this note will focus entirely on the current owner, whom I met personally during a visit to their headquarters in early 2020...more about that later.
  
  I first encountered ZeeBaaS reels when surfcasting on the rocks of the Montauk lighthouse. I've been surfcasting casually for almost 50 years... Hatteras, beaches & canals of Code Cod, and Montauk, etc, but I felt like an amateur standing next to this 20-something-year-old decked out in a wetsuit w/ lure-bag on his hip. He'd driven all night from PA, slept for a few hours only to wake up and fish the dawn before napping until high tide. Hard-core; got it. We got talking, and I eventually remarked about his reel with a big 'N'. The polite young man explained that it was a 'Z', not an 'N', which amused my 10-year-old son to no end. I wasn't a gear guy and only knew my father's 50-year-old made-in-France Garcia Mitchell 502's, but I was intrigued as Mr. Wetsuit kindly shared his passion for his ZeeBaaS reel.
  
  Soon after Montauk, one of the 502s gave up the ghost, and my local shop directed me to a Shimano Stradic, which I enjoyed on the boat but which felt a bit lacking in the surf. My son reminded me about our ZeeBaaS conversation, so I searched the web for information and found all sorts of misinformation, correction, repeat. I took my questions directly to the source with a call to the headquarters in Stratford CT and was invited for a visit when they learned that I lived nearby.
  
  I wasn't sure what to expect when I arrived, but Ron P greeted us with a smile at the door and showed us around the headquarters, which also includes the assembly, repair, and testing facilities. I felt like a kid in a candy store with racks of newly machined parts awaiting assembly, but I was even more impressed by the time that Ron and the rest of the team devoted to our tour, which included one person assembling the very reels that would soon be shipped to customers, another person pressure testing each reel, etc. The employees' pride, passion, and dedication to their hand-made-in-America product were obvious, and by the end of the tour, I appreciated why these reels cost as much as they did. My son also appreciated the stickers that came home with us.
  
  After seeing the ZeeBaaS, operation, I purchased from a local dealer a NOS ZX-25 and ZX-27, which Ron subsequently inspected and tested at no charge, and I've been very happy with them since...my only complaint is that I've used them too little over the past 2 years;). It's a reel (sic) pleasure simply to use them, and they definitely get their share of attention and subsequent conversation, which I happily entertain. In today's world of disposable products and planned obsolesce, ZeeBaaS is a refreshing alternative. The reels aren't cheap, but they're also not overpriced given the labor and material input. Every part of the reel can be serviced and replaced, and I hope they last as long as my father's 502s...to be used by my son (and maybe his child) once I'm gone.
  
  In terms of the reels themselves, they are workhorses. They may lack the silky smooth feel of some other reels, but they power in fish from the surf in ways that those silky reels cannot. Because ZeeBaaS reels handle salt and sand, I can focus on the fishing without worrying about damaging the reel; years later, the finish remains perfect which can't be said say about my other reels.
  
  I hope this review helps the next person who sees a reel with a big 'N' and wants to know more about ZeeBaaS reels and the people behind them.

  I have been using several of the ZeeBaaS products for the last few years and I have to the say quality is top notch. The reels speak for themselves but even the accessories and clothing. Nothing but the best. I’ve dealt with Ron and the customer service is awesome as well. Highly recommend!

  Great reels that can take the abuse of fishing in boulder fields for nights on end without any concerns or issues. I have multiple Zeebaas reels and they are all rock solid!
