I am 24-years old and I remember this program when I went to South Middle School. This program was offered as an after school program where I had so much fun, and had help with my homework. At that time my parents didn't know much english so they couldn't help with my homework, but my mom did everything in her power to find someone to help me with homework. When this program became available she became so happy. I thank God for this program!
Youth Enrichment Services (YES) is a life changing organization. I came to know YES shortly after it was founded. My younger brothers and sister would go to YES and always come home talking about the great time that they had. Then my family suffered a tragedy and I found out what YES was really all about. Have you heard the expression that it takes a village? Well YES became that village for my family. They provided the resources for my family to get through it. The staff, particularly MaryAnn, made themselves available to talk at all hours of the day. They also connected my parents with grief counselors to help them get through it. In short, YES did everything they could to help my family get through our worst moment. If there was a resource / service that my family needed that YES did not directly provide, then YES found a way to connect us to those outside resources. I don’t know how my family would have gotten through this without YES.
Not too long after this, YES hired me as a staff person. In my years there, I discovered that my experience with YES was not unique. YES consistently goes out of its way to make sure that the needs of families throughout the community. If there is a service that we don’t provide, we make sure to connect them to other resources in the community. MaryAnn continues to lead the way for YES. Her selflessness and passion is contagious. Throughout the years, I have seen many staff come to YES from all different walks of life. The one common thread is that they all love working with youth and have a desire to improve the community. I personally have grown as a result of working at YES.
How would I define YES? I’m not sure that’s possible, as it is constantly evolving. What I can say is that every staff member, program participant and family member define YES on a daily basis. When I started working at YES, I didn’t just become a part of YES, YES became a part of me. And I wouldn’t know where me or family would be without YES.
It's nice knowing that my children are in good hands when they come to the YES programs. Both Mike and Alexia are very kind and understanding with lots of patience for their special needs. Karen Sampogne
Excellent programs-Both my son and now my grandsons participate in the YES after school and summer programs. Best children and youth programs around...we have tried out many but YES is the Best!
