  Nice folks working downstairs. Unfortunately the society was between exhibits, so no displays to be seen.

  That institution is one of my favorite places to visit in town.
  
  What I like about the historical society is that it is home of events like annual book sale and craft fair.
  
  The book sale is held every spring (usually held from late April to early May). The craft fair is always held during Thanksgiving weekend.
  
  On the other hand, you'll find historic books and pamphlets, newspapers, maps and many more covering the good ol' Rockville (as once called the Loom City because manufacturing was popular in Rockville back in the 19th / 20th century) and the entire town of Vernon.
  
  Nice staff running this place to make sure that everything valuable about local history is preserved for future generations.
  
  Expansion occured 10+ years ago to add wheelchair-accessible entrance.
  
  Overall, what a fantastic place worth visiting to find interesting stuff about Vernon-Rockville's past.

  Every citizen who lives / has lived in Vernon-Rockville, CT must visit here, regardless if you enjoy history or not. It has full of information about the history of Vernon & Rockville. Needless to say, they can find you just about everything you want by request. They have nice staff who are like historians. They also have lots of books about the town and surrounding areas, as well as city directories, annual reports & high school yearbooks. They also some artifacts displayed about local history as well. This is part of our hometown, right HERE!

  I Had visited the Vernon Historical Society for the first time mostly for the Annual Book Sale. And when the book sale has ended, they not only use the money to support the museum, they give those books to other areas like the School Districts, Firestations, Jail Cells, and many other places around Vernon, CT as well. And this museum has been around for over 100 years. So this a pretty decent place to go to.

  I visited the historical society because I recently moved to Rockville and our home was built in 1880. I was able to go through some of their books to trace who the original owner was. Unfortunately for my home the hand writing was illegible but I was able to trace it pretty far back. One of the historical society members, Jon, gave me his email address and sent me some photos of the pond I live on from way back in the day. It was a lot of fun and I encourage everyone to check out the cool things the historical society is doing.
