I rushed my french bill dog in due to heat exhaustion. He was in really bad shape but the Dr. And staff were so helpful and they moved so quickly for my little furbaby. They literally saved his life and I am beyond greatful for their services! Everyone was so sweet and understanding (I was an emotional wreck) but they answered all my questions, were very detailed and supportive throughout this entire process. I want to give a special shout-out to Dr. J Menard; she was beyond helpful, empathetic and sweet. She’s truly an amazing Dr. And cares a lot for not only our pet babies but the owners as well. Pablo, Baby and I will forever be grateful for her services. Pen Vet saved my babies lives and I’m soo grateful! Thanks guys!!

I've had 14 dogs over the years and worked with many vets, some great and some not so great. After a disaster last fall (with a main line vet I thought I could trust) my precious red merle Aussie was traumatized by a physical exam that caused four herniated discs, medicated with a drug he was allergic to, and almost left for dead. This was not the first time I questioned this vet office, but I trusted the Penn label. But the label only means a great education in animal medicine. Larklain takes that education and adds love and care. You may ask, "Don't all all vets love and care?" Unfortunately, some become a business, as I saw happen with my previous vet. But the people at Larklain take the mission seriously. My Aussie who is stranger scared and fear aggressive (because of early trauma) was calm and as normal as I've ever seen him outside of my home--and he's almost ten years old. I can't say enough about these vets and their staff. If you are looking for a vet who really cares and isn't just in it as a business, check out Larklain.

Penn Vet is my go-to for emergencies despite living an hour away. I've brought many pets here over the years but recently my cat had an emergency from a bladder blockage and needed a perineal urethrostomy surgery and they were wonderful. They also do not overcharge, I ended up paying around $5,500 when I was given a high estimate of $7,000.

There are pros and cons to Penn Vet but I still recommend them over anyone else:

Pros: Their emergency department works fast, their surgical team is very skilled, staff is so friendly when you're there, the waiting room is clean. It feels like an actual human doctor's office or hospital. The estimates are honest and they don't run unnecessary tests or do unnecessary procedures. They are so good at giving updates and checking in with you. Even days after my cat's surgery the doctor was calling to check up on him, and allowed me to email her any concerns. She responded to those emails via phone call within a few hours. Genuinely, they're such a great vet. I'll give this advice, though, you get what you give. Please be kind to the Penn Vet staff, doctors, and students. They will go above and beyond for you if you are just kind to them and trust that they know what they're doing (yes, you should even trust the students.)

Cons: The people who answer the emergency line at night are absolutely no help and they tend to be rude and dismissive. Surgical follow ups can only be scheduled on Monday and Wednesday and they usually only have 1 or 2 openings which is just way too limited and difficult to schedule. They need to have better seclusion protocols for pets with contagious conditions, my cat caught an upper respiratory infection while here for surgery. This can't always be prevented, unfortunately, but I think the protocols for separation from other patients could be better.
