Excellent! Tonight I took a beginner painting class there. The class was small and there was the perfect combination of freedom and instruction. W. Noonan was the instructor today. I will definitely be back to take more classes and to check out the gallery and events.
The charm of the historic building might be enough to invite one in. But once there, the three galleries and the hallways filled with art are what keeps the interest. The rotating art exhibits are varied, though most pay tribute to the founding principles inspired by the Hudson River School. The gallery/school is a hive of activity. In addition to the formal exhibits there are on-site classes, the comings and goings of the plein air artists, and weekly senior drop-in painting sessions. Fresh floral arrangements (provided by a group of dedicated master gardeners,) are scattered throughout the exhibiting space and are an added feast for the eyes. WRS boasts some of the most well-attended, lively, and welcoming artists' receptions. Generally on Saturday afternoons and offering wine and tasty tid-bits, these gatherings are always free. I highly recommend a visit to this gem of a cultural institution in Montgomery NY, which is less than a a quarter mile up the road from Orange County's newest major winery.
My name is Chuck Tudor and I’ve been taking art classes at the Wallkill
School for over ten years. I love it there, it’s like my second home!
Over time I have seen improvement in my personal art skills and the skills
of those I have taken classes with. The teachers, the venue, the camaraderie, It’s all great!
Fun place for all ages! Children's programs in the summer and on weekends taught by professionals that are fun and engaging. Adult art classes for all levels in all mediums, some classes en plein air, which are my favorites. Galleries that are open to the public just to browse and see the latest paintings of local and regional artists. Beautiful building filled with fun, warm community of people!
The Wallkill River School is amazing! Everybody is super nice and they have great classes. I have taken many classes here and all of them have taught me lots and lots of things! I love to go here and take art classes because it is just so fun! I 100% recommend going here if you want to learn how to become an even better artist!
