(May 22, 2023, 2:00 pm)I went during the middle of Covid, so I was at home while being treated during the weekday from 8-5. Renfrew helped change my life. I do believe that more work could be done to incorporate cultural foods but other than that I felt very cared for as a QBIPOC person and am forever grateful for the staff that supported me during my time there.

I made a full recovery after spending several months in residential at the Renfrew Center in PA in 2017. I met some lifelong friends as well. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because I didn’t care for very many of the staff. The nurses were extremely rude at times. It felt like the patients were unsupervised most of the time.
As far as the actual program goes, it can feel very rigorous. There are different “levels” which I thought was interesting. Passes were given once you reach a certain level. They had a family weekend which was nice for those whose families were able to come. Many of the groups were helpful and the staff genuinely seemed to know what they were talking about.
The campus itself is beautiful. I was there from maybe October to the beginning of February & we went outside for fresh air whenever we could. I saw deer out of my window a few times. The place feels very private, in a good way.
Lastly, there was a “no cell phone” rule when I was there. This was very hard for me since all of my family & friends were back in Minnesota. I felt like I couldn’t connect with my support system. There were phones you could use in the lobby for a certain period of time but that is all. Maybe they’ve changed things now.
