Can't say enough about how amazing it was to get away from the busy lifestyle and enjoy a family friendly vacation in nature. Digitally detoxing was hard at first but oh so worth it. Kids enjoyed chopping the wood and making nightly camp fires, s'mores making, getting fresh eggs from the chicken coop, feeding the farm animals, enjoying the stunning and relaxing grounds, playing with the dogs, cats and other farm animals, swimming in the nearby lake, getting ices from the farm store, star gazing, cooking breakfast over the wood burning stove in our tent. They also enjoyed the day camp led by Darlia aka Cayotee. These family memories will be cherished.
Love the hidden bed in middle of the tent, such a great combination of camping yet having amenities like toilet sink and wood burning oven in the tent.
Went to ice cream in town about 10 minutes away. There's also a jujitsu studio called The Depot in town if your kids want to take a class.
Comfortable beds. Loved hearing the creek outside, crickets chirping and rain pattering. We got to be with nature in the comfort of a cozy bed. So special.
My family visits Walton a couple (few maybe?) times a year to get out of the city, and visiting Stoney Creek is a must every time.
Firstly, they’re all so welcoming. Happy to give little tours and answer questions at the drop of a hat. Which my son absolutely loves.
But holy smokes the foooooood. This past summer was the first time we were able to do one of their “pizza nights” and we were blown away.
Every time we visit we stock up on chorizo, bone-broth-bones, eggs, ham hocks etc. (The chorizo is SO good) And there’s always something my wife thinks of last minute that they of course dig up from somewhere in the back :p Oh, and we absolutely take advantage of their NYC DELIVERIES whenever we can. (Including farm raised turkeys for Thanksgiving!)
You just have to go!
In general though, let me say this. I can’t imagine how hard it is to run a farm like theirs. All the endless work. And again, every time we drop in, Kate is just so nice. Shares in the excitement of our family etc. It could be so easy to just not be into people coming by your house/LIFE, but that just never happens.
Thank you for being such an amazing anchor for our little “factory reset” weekends everyone!
We have been going to stony creek farm for 3 years now and have the best memories there! My son always asks to go back to the farm. The tents are beautiful, animals are everywhere, and the store is amazing! I hope it’s always a family tradition. Kate and her family are the best
Stony Creek Farmstead is magical! Our family has been spending a weekend there for the past two years and have already booked our return for this summer. Kate and her family are the most welcoming hosts, and their farm is the perfect space for kids to roam and play. Our daughter loves meeting the animals, splashing in the little creek, and sleeping in the hidden cabinet bed of the tent. Saturday pizza nights are especially beautiful with delicious food, vibrant sunsets, and a big fire for roasting marshmallows. My favorite part might be waking up early to find the farm dogs sleeping outside the tent and walking down to pick up a basket of fresh bread, eggs and other farm goodies. I can’t wait to return!
Highly recommended! My wife and I stayed in one of the platform tents with our 2 year old daughter-- for context, I enjoy backpacking/camping but my wife does not particularly like camping, and this was our first time bringing the toddler on an experience like this. We all had a fantastic time.
The platform tents were very nice. There was a sturdy wood stove, kitchen area with clean cold water piped in, and a small toilet room with a flush toilet. We stashed my daughter in a raised bunk area and we slept in the bigger bed. It was spacious, comfortable, and dry. Overall the perfect mix of rustic and comfortable. We stayed here in October and whenever the wood stove died overnight the tent would get COLD, but easily fixed by layering up our clothes and immediately lighting the fire in the morning.
The farm was so much fun for everyone. There's a motley crew of ducks, chickens, working dogs, outdoor cats, sheep, etc that wander around the farmstead and semi-interact with the campers. My daughter loves animals but is shy when they get close-- she had so much fun roaming around the farm and visiting all the animals. We checked out two weeks ago and she still says "I want to see Alfred the duck."
It was fun and relaxing for the adults too. There's no cell service or wifi so you really get a chance to relax, read, and de-stress. We will definitely be returning to Stony Creek Farmstead and are planning to bring family friends as well.
