Love this park. I used to walk the entire trail (10 mi?) Years ago ... Before I became confined to a wheelchair. I still like to find a quiet spot to eat lunch in the car and watch the squirrels and the people enjoying themselves. Some of the other sister parks have too many geese.
This is what we have in DunkerHook area of Saddle River County park.
1. A huge picnic area with a very good play area and swings for young kids.
2. A bike and walk path parallel to the two different water streams. Be careful to walk on the left side. So bicyclers can pass by easily.
3. Benches at short distance alongside the walk path. So elders can seat and relax but youngsters can continue walking and meet them back on return path.
4. A small waterfall that makes a good relaxing waterfall sound if you seat on one of the close by benches.
5. Park has different areas. Some really small areas like Area C to park 10 cars and have your own picnic right across.
6. Parking is enough on a given day but it may get busier over the weekend.
Enjoy!!
The red hiking trail isn't marked or maintained but I was able to find the main hiking trail that parallels the bike path and the Saddle River. The bike path connects several parks. From there I saw a waterfall, ducks, an egret and juvenile frogs. The park includes a playground, picnic tables, benches, a gazebo and restrooms.
Peaceful, heavily wooded, section of the Saddle River County Park system. Beautiful large oak and other tree species abound. This area is primarily geared for for picnicking as there are many picnic tables. There's also a small kiddie jungle gym playground. There are bathroom facilities but no ballfields or sports fields. Trout fishing isn't too bad by the bridge just a few hundred yards down the exit road/path heading south. Lots of squirrels, in fact we always jokingly called this "squirrel city". The foliage colors in the fall are stunning.
