Got a chance to stop by Ry & Howies this weekend and decided to grab myself two sandwiches..

Having worked in the restaurant industry for all my life, I had seen through one of my old Chef's that a well respected Chef and good buddy of his was opening up a place in my hometown. I already have a lot of respect for these group of fellows as I know what they're capable of..

I was immediately and politely greeted by the front counter girl & boy. Off the bat, in a world of smileless customer service and monotone, "how can I help you", that is not what I received walking in. It had a real family vibe, and they fielded any questions I had with confidence. Good job, kids!

The decor was quaint and simple, but honestly, it just felt right for a place you just want to get a simple yet good sandwich from.

Offering various cheesesteaks & hoagies, burgers, and several specialty sandwiches, I opted to keep it simple and try one hot and one cold sandwich.

I got a classic Italian with all the normal fixings and hot cherry peppers and a pizza steak with fried long hot peppers, mushrooms, and onions.

I went home, smoked a jay, and opened up that big bag of sandwiches that was waiting for me.

First, the bread was super soft, and you could tell freshly baked.

Your first impression just looking at it is that someone took their time making this. They actually cared.

You might think that's a silly thing, but I don't think I'm the only person out there experiencing sub-par service and half thrown together food. The work ethic and ability to get good help has been real trouble for a lot of places, but this... this is the sandwich I've been looking for. Perfectly balanced, and the homemade hot peppers packed a punch (in a good way!).

Offering small and large size sandiches, I opted for 2 smalls. The pizza steak was out of this world good. I'm from Philly, home of the cheesesteak, and typically reserve all my cheesesteak eating for when I'm in the city. I haven't found a great cheesesteak more local than traveling to Philly for one.

I will say, however, that if they continue to put out consistent food like what I just picked up yesterday, than finally I'll have a cheesesteak place 2 minutes away, rather than the 30+ to Philly.

The quality of the steak was phenomenal, and the cheese had so much flavor! I had to pull the sandwich away from my face and do a double take to all the flavors it was bursting with, and so unexpectedly, for a simple pizza steak. The mushrooms weren't those Sysco brand mushrooms. If they were, then shame on me, but the ingredients definitely tasted elevated with fried onions and homemade long hots to bring it all together.

A nice addition to our growing town, local Chefs with a ton of background and skill, who just want to simply make you a damn good sandwich. Nothing else.

Again, as long as they stay consistent, man, do I think they'll do just fine! I will, for sure, be returning! I look forward to trying every one of their Specialty Sandwiches.

Had dinner at Ry and Howie's tonight. The cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteaks were the best we have had in a long time. Can't wait to go back - absolutely delicious.
