Is always clean, and smells like coffee. The design is open but still cozy. The baristas make good drinks and the food is made at the college so it's fresh. I like to go there to get a drink which helps settle me into studying. The vegan muffins never disappoint.
Sara and Claire gave our group a wonderful VIRTUAL tour of the RW Kern Center. It only made me want to see it in person even more….Their enthusiasm was very welcome as we begin our own journey toward Living Building Certification. Their willingness to share their knowledge to help inform and influence the next generation of Living Buildings is greatly appreciated!
On both floors they have really great conference rooms for presentations and work retreats! The whole layout of the building is very beautiful and they've incorporated elements of nature into the design. It's great just to sit in and do work, even in the hallways where they've set up comfy chairs for informal meetings. When I was there for a work retreat last year, another event (celebration for their new president/chancellor I think?) was happening downstairs and they had a free ice cream station set up.
Thoroughly enjoyed my tour of this beautiful building and the advanced sustainable systems that make it a Living Building. We got a close-up look at all of the systems along with a detailed narrative from our guide regarding the functionality, benefits, and challenges for each. Highly recommend a visit for any design professional interested in LBC and sustainable design best practices.
Wonderful green space sustainable building! Not only is it environmental friendly, it is the 17th certified Living Building in the country. Its alive! Collects and treats its own water, built with non toxic materials, generates its own electricity. The professors/students of Hampshire College are allies in creating and working towards a future with the center, supporting the values of true sustainability. The building itself is beautiful, bright, air flowing through the high ceilings, beautiful woods used in the space. Don't miss this opportunity to visit and learn from the R.W. Kern Center in beautiful Amherst MA on the campus of Hampshire College.
The R.W. Kern Center is the 17th certified Living Building, embodying Hampshire College's environm 11/22/2021 . Need a recap of what happened at this year's UN COP 26 conference? RWKC Intern Bruce Prescott has you covered. Visit the RWKC website for the full summary, as well as how Living Buildings can support some of the COP agreements.
