  5 stars isn't enough, some places/people supersede any conventional rating system.
  
  Missing 1 week at Royal feels like a month; missing a month feels like a year. But seeing the family's faces each day is such a major lifestyle de-stressor. Only the top echelon people of *character* train here (not necessarily top skill, but that goes hand-in-hand with character), under Matheus and his crew, and studio/community that they've built (together.)
  
  Personally, with a lifetime of on/off martial arts and self-defense experience (goju-ryu karate, boxing, wing chun, jeet kune do, tang soo do, etc.), my opinion is that BJJ/wrestling/grappling is superior (as a base) in both sport and self-defense than other arts, and Royal makes you come for the skill, but you stay for the family.
  
  In terms of skill, Royal's 6-week *iterative* program is the most effective (and *engaging*) style of teaching that I've had. Each week is a fixed and distinct category of progression (takedowns, submissions, escapes, connections, etc.), first 3 days of the week focus on a different/new move-set each day, the latter 3-4 days of the week reiterate the moves, and every program cycle (6 weeks), will be different combinations or moves (so if you particularly like something, you better show up that week, or those specific days, to drill and refine it! Hence, engaging.)
  
  Sparring: 99% of everyone you roll with (which is every class) can "read the room", has utmost etiquette, is not only polite, but will either train you, if you want that, OR go all out and challenge you, if you want that. There's nothing but respect, sensitivity, fun, and immense challenge here.
  
  Even though rooted in Brazil, these people are 100% New York/Long Island/Eastern Queens culture and values at its best!
  
  Mineola Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu beats plain Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu any day (and Matheus' students have the IBJJF medals to prove it.)

  I recently had the pleasure of having a birthday party for my 7-year-old daughter at Royal Jiu-Jitsu academy, and I must say I was thoroughly impressed with the entire experience. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional, making my daughter's special day a truly memorable one.
  
  The academy provided a fantastic space for the party, which was clean, spacious, and perfect for kids birthday parties. The activities and games that were organized by the staff kept the kids entertained and engaged throughout the party, ensuring that they had a great time while also learning some new skills.
  
  Nick Gallo, who is one of the staff members, was especially helpful and professional throughout the party, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and that all the children were well taken care of. His attention to detail and friendly demeanor really made the party a huge success.
  
  Overall, I highly recommend Royal Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy for anyone looking to host a memorable and fun-filled kids' birthday party. The staff, facilities, and activities provided were truly top-notch, and my daughter and her friends had an absolute blast. Thank you, Royal Jiu-Jitsu academy, for an unforgettable experience!

  I’ve been to many academy’s and own one myself. This is by far one of the best. The first thing you’re met with is a welcoming and kind culture of respect and acceptance. Next, you realize the modern and ultra clean atmosphere. Not only was the academy spotless, the students and professors were clean, well groomed and respectful. Thank you all for the hospitality, great rolls, and protecting my injured back. Not a single person did anything that could have been harmful or cause injury.   Long term review..... been regularly going to Roya jiu jitsu 3 to 6 times a week for almost 2 years. I've been obese, out of shape and not active for the majority of my life. I've tried dieting and exercise it would only work for so long till I stopped or lost motivation. I walked into Royal at 360lbs I started privates with coach Paulo and from there to fundamental classes. After almost 2 years and over 200 fundamental classes I'm now 280lbs and dropping. Royal feels like home and I can't thank Matheus and Alicia for all the hard work and dedication they put into making Royal jiu jitsu the best gym on long Island.

  I train in Philly and was in town for a wedding. Was able to sneak away for some training at Royal. The facilities are great, two showers and full changing room. Two mat spaces, both really nice. Took the no-go class, instruction was great and the rolls were technical and fun. Definitely check them out whether you’re dropping in or looking for a place to train!

It's a 20 minute drive from my house and the professors are world class. Matheus is a 5x world champ and is one of the nicest people I've ever met. I can't recommend this gym enough to someone trying to start Jiu jitsu.
