(June 16, 2022, 7:53 pm)I drove past this statue many times that is located in front of the Wall Township Police Headquarters. There is a long history that I learned about regarding the statue and the Memorial for Gen. Harry Rockafeller. He was a 2 Star General who earned 3 Silver Stars, a Bronze Star with Valor and a Purple Heart for his service in WWII. He was an American Hero who saved many lives. Gen. Harry Rockafeller was a resident of Wall Township for 70 years and his WWII heroics were unknown to many people in town. Wall Police Officer, Michael Malone, met Harry Rockafeller during a routine call and was instrumental in getting the statue and memorial created. He got to know Harry Rockafeller very well before his passing and they became good friends. In Rockafeller’s final days, Officer Michael Malone promised him he will not be forgotten. Gen. Harry Rockafeller passed away on August 8, 2017 at 100 years of age. A nine-foot bronze statue of Gen. Harry Rockafeller was unveiled in 2018 on Veterans Day and will honor his memory and honor the memory of all our WWII Veterans.
