(May 9, 2018, 4:59 pm)Ridley Creek State Park is a real gem. I have hiked, birdwatched, and fished there for over 30 years. Most people stay on the multi-use trail that is paved, but I prefer to hike the white trail through the woods, it offers some challenge and a feeling of wilderness so close to our crowded Philadelphia suburbs.
Be cautious of ticks after being in the woods though. They are a dangerous scourge. Fishing there is not easy and gets hit pretty hard after trout stockings but the patient angler will be rewarded. Great picnic areas with covered pavillions. The park office is an old stone mansion but budget cuts have left the surrounding gardens in less than its formerly grand condition. Get outside and enjoy this resource that is part of the great Pennsylvania's state park system.
