A pull-off exists on the south side of CT-4 holds 2-3 cars. Be careful not to block the fish hatchery gate.
A short stretch from the trailhead is a brook crossing. There are sturdy rocks and a cement tunnel as a bridge. A half-mile in, the trail forks: Yellow/Blue for Nassahegon/Tunxis, and Blue/Purple for the Punch Brook trail. We bore left for Punch Brook.
At this point, the trail is all uphill, though no hands are required. The woods were quiet on a gray January afternoon. A mix of pine, birch and other trees. We continued up the ridge overlooking Mountain Spring Road and Blueberry Lane, then returned to the car.
The trail is worth a repeat visit.
