At the age of 72, looking forward to learning to play the piano for personal enjoyment . . .AND it looks like I've found just the resource to help. Clearly written and easy to follow . . .Thanx John!
John is a good teacher who is willing to teach every student in their own way and understand their learning path and adjust accordingly. I was a previous student of John but don't live near him anymore unfortunately. I can confidently say he is the best teacher I've had for piano as he understands how to work around difficulties and teach you how to overcome things that would seem impossible when learning how to play piano and read music, while remembering and valuing the skills he offers. We'd be done with a few lessons and I could play 2 handed songs like Clocks by Coldplay and without sheets to read I could remember it in my head. If you're a student of Johns you'll be in good hands!!!
I watched my son grow musically year after year for nine years, then he joined a rock band, but that was just youth. He’s a dentist now, but plays for the choir at his church. Music has been a big gift for him and this method works with inattentive kids like mine was. Give it a try.
My 3 year old has been taking lessons with John for about a year now. She loves it and fights with her sisters on who gets to go first. John is fun, motivating, patient and kind. Despite not knowing her numbers and barely having a grasp on the alphabet, she has learned a couple of songs, rhythms and landmarks on the piano and can recognize mistakes. All while having fun my preschooler is learning numbers, letters, counting, music, critical listening and I'm sure all sorts of beneficial social skills. I highly recommend John and his music by number program.
Piano activities interest kids in the piano and prepare them for further involvement. Games are used to show a musical concept, for example: 1. Distinguish left from right on the piano keyboard. 2. Distinguish up/down on the piano keyboard. 3. Understand the qualities of happy and sad when listening to music. 4.
