  Over the past few years I had heard pretty awful stories from friends and family about their birth experiences - getting induced too soon, unnecessary C-sections, babies removed from mom right after birth for ‘testing’ even with good APGAR scores, being stuck in bed and not able to move around during labor, etc. NO ONE said they loved their birth experience - in fact almost everyone told me how much it sucked and although they wanted more children, dreaded having to go through the process again. I started wondering, why is this the ‘normal’?
  Then someone told me that their friend just had a baby with The Midwives of NJ. I didn’t even know what a midwife was at the time, but wanted to learn more. So I attended the practice orientation where Lisa talked about how birth is NORMAL, and that our bodies are DESIGNED to birth, that birth is BEAUTIFUL, and woman CAN LOVE their birth experience. I left that orientation with a new sense of readiness, and all of the fear that was fed to me about childbirth was gone!
  
  Fast forward a few years, and my husband and I were ready to start our family. From our first appointment at 8 weeks pregnant, all the way up till our birth at Our Birthing Center in Morristown (and through the postpartum period as well), my husband and I were continually amazing by the care we received from all of the staff and midwives! At each appointment, we were educated about pregnancy and birth, and reminded about how beautiful and normal it is. We felt fully supported from the start! The midwives always explained ALL options regarding birth (i.e., location - hospital/home birth/and birthing center, medicated VS unmediated birth, etc) without any judgement EVER. They walked us through the process of developing a birth plan, explained the birth process and what to expect, and always answered all of our questions (and never made us feel stupid for asking!). I loved their encouragement on helping me keep my body healthy with exercise and food choice.
  
  Because I felt so prepared for birth, I remember saying during my labor “this (the pain) isn’t that bad at all!” And it wasn’t - because I knew my body was meant for this, I knew that I could do it, I had amazing support and love from the midwife and birth assistant, and I was going to meet my child so soon!
  
  To everyone considering midwives for your birth - PLEASE do it!! Whether it’s your first or fifth birth, you will have an experience a thousand times better than what you had before / could imagine!

  Delivered baby #3 with them. After having babies 1 and 2 with an OB in the hospital, this change was night and day. Their care and companion my entire pregnancy was amazing. Very prompt at calling back and I loved that they do blood work at the office. They offer many other groups post birth so you don’t feel like a break up after you deliver your baby. It truly is about motherhood here and not just being pregnant.

  A completely different atmosphere and experience than anywhere else. From the genuine one on one care and long appointments, to the education behind every step throughout each trimester , I cannot imagine going elsewhere for care. From my first experience with the midwives group a few years ago for a regular checkup , I knew I wouldn’t ever be as comfortable or as respected elsewhere. I truly wish more people knew about them and could experience the completely different approach they take on things . It brings such peace of mind every time I leave their office just from being around such positive and warm people. Their educational classes take a huge weight off your worrying shoulders as a first time parent. Just after leaving the first childbirth class I felt so much more confident no matter how my birth plays out. When life is already pretty stressful and pregnancy opens a new world of doors , they really give you the benefit of knowing you’re in good hands.

  I had an amazing birth experience thanks to our birthing center and mid wives of New Jersey , coming from having a traumatic first birth experience with newton hospital, I was so happy that this time was different. Mark gets back to you very fast with any questions you have. He takes pride in his job and is very positive. When I arrived at the birthing center the team met me outside , I went straight to the tub Which was filling before we got there because we called ahead and had my baby 20 mins later. The mid wife Amanda unwrapped the umbilical core that was wrapped my baby head very fast and you can tell She’s experienced. Roxy is so sweet , She makes you feel like family, and came to our home for baby check up .Ashley the doula was encouraging me during birth and took pictures . Roche is very nice, has great values and was there to answer the phone every time I thought I was going into labor . I would recommend if you want a great birth experience go with these amazing women!

  The only reason I’m giving the Midwives a 5-star review is because 10 isn’t an option. My first baby was delivered by Roxie and assisted by Ashley 3 days ago and I just cannot give them enough praise. As a first time mom attempting home birth, my labor was longer and much more difficult than I had imagined, but with their support I was able to be at home for almost my entire labor before a non-emergency transfer to the hospital, where Roxie and Ashley continued and completed the delivery with very minimal intervention, respecting my wishes as much as the situation allowed. They gave me the best possible outcome for my birth and my baby and I are doing phenomenally well. I hope I can find an adequate way to thank them!
