So fun, great history, the tour guide went a bit fast but it was still fascinating. I loved the main room, it’s stunning! Kid friendly except for the steep steps. They do have awesome comfy mini toddler couches. Up high is cool, but crowded, it would be better if people took turns going up there (and taking photos). You can even see out of Lucy’s eyes, as well as being able to look at Lucy history that is literally embedded into the elephant. They are in the wall, visible thanks to glass windows. Some of the items include a (fake) elephant tusk, and a old newspaper I think. Speaking of paper, there is a log book where you can write a note to Lucy, fun for the kids. Furthermore, be advised that there is a glass floor on top of Lucy, this glass floor looks into the main room, it is shown in the video, but there is a reflection, it’s a bit hard to see.
It was our first visit to Lucy. We were glad that we waited for the exterior renovations to be done. She looks gorgeous! You'd never guess she was built in the1880's. It was a treat to explore her interior and learn about her history. Our tour guide was funny, informative and clearly enjoys his job. He said he's been doing it for eight years! When you're in the gift shop, look for the 1976 historic landmark plaque. There's also a photo of the bedraggled Lucy before the Save the Lucy campaign took off. There is limited free parking onsite but I recommend looking for free street parking a few blocks away. There are public restrooms nearby with longer-term plans to upgrade the visitor center. Look for the Lucy water tank before you head out.
I was surprisingly impressed with this quarky elephant 🐘. It was an interesting visit. Some informative history and just generally a funny side show. Would i plan a day around it - no. But its worth the visit. And its free to look and walk around. If you want to tour it costs money but it's not too expensive.
Hadn't seen her in about 10 years, so it was time for another visit. So glad we went. Great experience and great little restaurant just behind Lucy with yummy smoothies, ice cream, and lunch! Nice place to sit and eat. Parking is limited, so may have to park down one of the side streets across from Lucy.
Previously visited during the day and took the tour. Went back to see it at night. The tour told us her eyes were blue as a nod to Old Blue-Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. Her eyes were blue and it was so very cool! Cute, quirky Americana. I love it!
