We visited the plantation at 3:00 pm. The last guided tour started at 3:30 pm, so first we watched a documentary about John Dickinson’s life, we went to check his plantation, and then his home. The guide was really knowledgeable and helpful. We learned that the local historical society is investigating about this great politician and businessman. Dickinson is also remembered as a personality who helped actively to emancipate the African American community and find their own independence. You will not be asked to pay, but donations are always accepted! Not thrilled about the bottom floor is still shutdown, due to COVID…
Nice detour if you are passing through or visiting Air Mobility command museum.
Although, the place closes at 4:30, the last tour is at 3pm; then you are on your own to watch the movie and walk the fields.
Great mansion tour, they have taken great care to preserve and restore the mansion and try to preserve and tell the stories of those who often get forgotten to history. They are doing important work here! And, amazingly, free.
Interesting place to learn some historical facts about one of the lesser known founding fathers. This place gives you a glimpse to the times where slave labor was used for farming. They have an actually replica hut of were slaves lived. Great experience and out tour guide was very knowledgeable and nice. Some of the structures were close and the tour is limited to the mansion and not the surrounding structures.
Of course it helped that we visited on a beautiful day but the place is full of history and our tour guide Chris led us on a tour of the house and impressed us all with his knowledge of life when it was an active plantation. A thoroughly enjoyable day.
