Not sure what to say other than this is the place to go if you want ice cream. It’s the best. Never had a flavor myself, my husband or our kids didn’t like. Expect a line, but don’t be discouraged when you see one, even if it’s really long. It goes fast and they call out your name with whatever you ordered quickly. Really cozy atmosphere with lots of tables and benches. We like to order then sit in the bed of the truck and watch the cows. The cows frequently can be seen in the pastures surrounding, so that’s always a plus to keep kids distracted while you wait.
I didn’t know what ice cream was actually supposed to taste like until I had it here. Campfire is absolutely my favorite (the mini marshmallows are absolutely delightful), but you can’t go wrong with any of their flavors, regular or seasonal. I do wish their peach ice cream had more of a peach flavor but that’s literally the only thing I can complain about. The prices are still so reasonable, which is hard to come by these days. The pints are $6, which is cheaper than grocery store ben & Jerry’s, and 100x better tasting. You can’t be in connecticut and not try Ferris acres ice cream ☺️
Ice cream is good. But went today and as we waited and waited our names were never called We noticed people ordering way after us were getting their ice cream. We questioned our order and was told the order did not transfer to the other side. I know mistakes happened but we also witness this happen to someone else on a previous visit. Maybe the owners should look into this. Or go by a number system so you know if you were skipped or missed. So cant give 5 stars
You can't go wrong with all the flavors of ice cream they have. ample parking in the heart of Newtown. Lines can get long in the summer, so be sure to plan ahead. Assorted flavors are available at the quick checkout window, prepackaged in pints and quarts. cakes can be ordered ahead too
I love Ferris Acres!
They serve some of the (possibly THE) best ice cream in Connecticut, and it is all homemade! The milk comes from cows you can pet across the street, and although I’ve never seen them, I trust them when they say they own the chickens who make the eggs.
They have a variety of flavors, and you can make a milkshake out of any of them. They also have a long list of sundaes, and many different toppings. They also sell the ice cream in take-home quarts and pints, have special milkshakes and smoothies, and make custom cakes (the ice cream cake is amazing).
If you live nearby and haven’t been here yet, you should definitely go.
During the summer and spring, they get very busy and you cannot get into lot, and there are long lines, but it is honestly worth the wait. They also have good seating for families, couples, and small groups.

They have lots of delicious confections to choose from--I particularly recommend Elvis's Dream (bananas with peanut butter and chocolate) or Dark Chocolate Espresso, but I doubt you can go wrong.
