Updated 3/27/23: This review was originally written on 2/09/23, the day after I had a radiofrequency ablation for lumbar facet joint arthritis and I had initially thought it worked right away. That was not the case, but it did start to work about 3 weeks later and I haven’t had any pain in my lower back since, so I’m extremely pleased. I think the initial relief I thought was the ablation working was actually some numbness which I think is normal soon after the procedure. I did feel discouraged when I started to have the same pain again a few days later but I was surprised when it seemed like it was improving a few weeks later and it got better until I no longer had pain. I hope it lasts a while but it has already given me such relief that I would definitely have the procedure again.
I have been seeing Dr. Ko since last June at the Allentown office except for one time when I needed an urgent appointment and saw him at the Stroudsburg office. Dr. Ko and I have been waiting for the chance for him to be able to do a lumbar radiofrequency ablation to hopefully relieve the pain in my lower back, which we know is from facet joint arthritis. I have been on medications so far, but yesterday I finally had the radiofrequency ablation, which basically burns the nerves and they die, leaving you without pain for a while until they regenerate (there’s complications with every procedure though). Yesterday I had some soreness from the needles themselves and then I had some increased pain last night when I washed dishes, which normally wouldn’t cause pain. That is all normal. But today I woke up (I’m still really not allowed to do anything that would strain my back, so it’s hard to really tell) and my back feels better than it has since I was 10
years old. I’m 44 now with a genetic condition that is causing more and more joints to have problems with early osteoarthritis and other issues. Dr. Ko must be a magician. Or a genius. That’s how I feel right now because it seems like my normal low level pain is gone. I have to give him 5 stars for his patience so far with me and his ability to perform injections and procedures like this radiofrequency ablation. He’s extremely talented with injections compared to other providers who have given me any injections. He’s quick with them and they are effective. He also seems to have a compassionate side to him and I appreciate that.
