Let me start by saying this is a fun little shop to walk around. I love to look around at all of the stuff they have. However, this is only truly useful as an art store if you are an oil artist.
They only have a small section each of watercolors and acrylics. They only carry two (that I saw) brands of tube watercolor (Holbein and Winsor Newton Professional). There were maybe 50 shades between the two brands. I was sorely missing both the watercolors in a lower price range and those in a higher quality range. I would’ve loved to see some Winsor Newton Cotman/student-grade paints, as this shop is attached to an art school. I also would’ve loved to have seen some Daniel Smiths, as I have to order those from Blick, which takes 1-2 weeks. They also don’t carry empty half pans to fill from the tubes, which is just kind of bizarre. They don’t have any pre-filled pan watercolors.
I’m not quite as into acrylic paints, so I don’t have as much to say on that front. If I remember correctly, they only had a small selection of Golden (incredible quality, but high price point) paints. I don’t remember seeing any Liquitex, Winsor Newton, or heavy-body acrylics. Again, it seems a little strange, considering this shop is attached to an art school.
Their brush selection is very spotty, and it’s pretty much impossible to find two of the same brush. They didn’t have a sharpener suitable for pastels, only razors?? They also sell many gently used materials, but they aren’t in a separate section. They’re just kind of scattered among the other things.
Again, I enjoy the ambiance and uniqueness of this place, but I feel that it’s only useful as an art store for oil painters. I still highly recommend dropping in and checking it out!
