My doctor Dale Butler works out of Urgent Care in Haverstraw N.Y. And she recently saved my life.
It's almost impossible to find a doctor that works with you. At this stage in my life, I want a medical professional who LISTENS to what I have to say.
I'm not a pill popper and taking any medication puts extra stress on vital organs. I like when a doctor thinks about the patient she's working with before increasing dosage or adding a medication to the daily regimen.
During a scheduled televisits, I mentioned that I was experiencing what I thought was heartburn 24/7. She asked how long has this been going on, I said two weeks. Because I have never experienced heartburn in my life, I was not sure what I was feeling to even describe it to her.
She immediately scheduled an office visit for a heart sonogram the following day. Have to start somewhere. My heart looked clear, no passages were blocked. She scheduled another sonogram of the stomach and belly.
About two days after the sonogram at about 8:30 pm, she called me. Now I know when a doctor calls you at home at night, something is wrong.
I answered the phone saying, what's wrong? She said get dressed and get yourself to the emergency room right now. I'm looking at the film from the sonogram and your gallbladder is packed with stones. You must get to the hospital right now. Well, that's all I needed to hear and spent the entire night in the ER with another sonogram. Leaving with as much information as when I arrived.
Dr. Butler nailed this diagnosis on the head.
The head ER doctor gave me an emergency appointment with a surgeon within 2 days and the following Friday I was in surgery. My gallbladder was so packed with stones I couldn't have the simple laparoscopic surgery, I needed to have Open cholecystectomy when the gallbladder is removed through an incision on the right side under the rib cage.
Doctor Butler is my hero, she saved my life by listening to me. Looking back, I have been in severe lower back pain for over one year. Not realizing that it's exactly where the gallbladder is resting on, filled with stones. Not all ruptures occur in the same part of the gallbladder. Certain rupture locations make removal more difficult, which increases the risk of developing an infection.
Serious complications of a rupture can be fatal.
