  I have stayed here twice now, but in a different cottage each time. I wish I had more pictures of the interiors to show because I really enjoyed both spaces. They were cozy and well-equipped. In addition, the property is well-maintained and well-located because it’s close to all my favorite hikes, breweries, and restaurants. There is an unlimited supply of firewood, you get a good view of the mountain next door from the yard by the fire pit, and in the summer you get to pick your own veggies and herbs from the garden to eat. James actually left me and my group fresh cucumbers every morning. He is friendly, knowledgeable about the area, and very accommodating. In the winter, he offered to let my partner and I use the screened in studio on the back of the main house on a day with bad weather so we could feel like we were outside without actually having to be in the rain. I’m sure we will be back a third time.

  To say we loved out stay is an understatement! The studio is clean and inviting. It is stocked with everything you might need and more. We so appreciated the screen porch and access to the gorgeous backyard where we enjoyed the fire pit. We found the location to be very convenient. There were many things to enjoy right in Phoenicia - food, shops, hiking. Other destinations in the region are just a lovely drive away. Alma and James were truly wonderful hosts, they made us feel so welcome and the communication was excellent throughout our stay.

  The stay was very relaxing -- the location at James & Alma's cottage was ideal for hiking, dining, or having a quiet night in. We worked the week we were there, and had no issues with the internet while both being on the wi-fi. Our puppy was very happy too, relaxing on the porch during the day, and exploring the many dog-friendly hiking areas nearby after work hours. The most special touch was their vegetable garden, from which we picked fresh veggies and made salads. A really special spot, ideal for those hoping to explore the Phoenicia area.

  We had the most fantastic stay at the zen cottage. James & alma were great hosts and we loved the hiking & swimming recommendations. The shared backyard is beautiful. The location is perfect - right near the river, hikes, Phoenicia town & the Phoenicia diner! I would highly recommend staying here. We hope to be back very soon.

  What a perfect stop on our visit! The Zen Cottage was so comfortable and charming. Great communication from the start and the extra touches made us feel right at home. Everything was extremely clean, bright cheery space, and the backyard fire pit and hammock was such a bonus! My son and I had two fantastic hikes in the area, several great meals, and loved the Mountain stream. We would definitely stay here again!
