You'll still have to advocate for yourself. Case manager Cherina was condescending and confidently gave me tons of incorrect information. Cherina even made a random comment about how she only dates white men which made me extremely uncomfortable. I know case managers are underpaid and overworked, but that does not leave room for what I experienced from her.
After trying to problem solve on my own and it not working, a supervisor was responsive to switching case managers. The one I am working with now is fantastic and respectful. He's never made me feel uncomfortable and talks to me like a human (i'd never experienced being talked down to for my mental illness till Cherina). I'm not dreading the weekly time together anymore and he's actually helping me out.
The care my family and I have received from the Hasbrouck Heights office at Care Plus has been absolutely amazing. Two of my children and myself struggle with our mental health and we have had incredible social workers help us to overcome some major battles. Gabriella Urato, Cory Speicher, Melissa Lustmann, and Mary Carney have been nothing short of a blessing in our lives. They've helped us navigate through difficult times and have given us the skills needed to manage our emotions, fears, and anxieties. The world is no longer a scary place. I cannot thank this team enough. If you or your child needs help and doesn't know where to start, call this office. You will certainly be grateful afterwards.
