We just camped here for the 7th time we love the location and camp sites. Bathrooms are well kept and showers are clean! They sell small bags of ice and firewood. Wild life is great. We saw a bear but it could care less, we love the deer sometimes they come right up to you. Turkeys are great to wake up to as the pass by. And the howling of the wolves at the top of the my where they are well kept at the preserve is awesome!
My wife and I stayed here Friday through Sunday last weekend. We were initially concerned about bears and had seen potentially the staff could be rude in previous reviews. I’m happy to say we encountered neither! We kept our site clean (it probably helped that it was absolutely pouring the whole weekend) and hadn’t seen a bear and the staff was very friendly! When we got there a man at the front desk signed us in, sold us wood and gave us a good run down of how to avoid bears (no food in the tent) and he saw we had a kayak and recommended White Lake which was about a 10 minute drive. While it did rain a TON we still had a super fun time being outside and hiking and camping. Be warned the trail up to mount Tammany past the wolf preserve is a bit overgrown and was at times more of a climb so if you’d rather a shorter maybe easier hike I would recommend driving to the red trail parking area and going straight up to the peak since it was about a mile or so hike up to the top and then 2-3 miles to get to the peak on mostly flat ground. Also the showers were way better than I had expected, very clean with individual stalls. We stayed at a primitive site (81) next to the flush toilets and I was also impressed that they were kept really clean as well. The game room looked well maintained as well and they had a basketball game, a racing game and a buck hunter one all looking pretty new (we weren’t able to use them though as we had our dog with us). Definitely would camp here again!
The website for this campground shows a motto- the genuine outdoor experience. That’s exactly what this campground offers. A wooded setting with electric and water hookups, very rustic but very adequate, some sites back up to a gorgeous creek, and all sites have a picnic table, fire pit, and trash can. There are recycling bins throughout the park, also. Staff was super friendly. The lake has a beach area for swimming, a small mini golf course and a game room with arcade games. The gift shop has some really cool stuff AND ice cream! The campground is less than 5 miles from the interstate but feels so far removed with a total nature vibe. There are deer everywhere and it’s just so peaceful. We absolutely loved it here.
