We visited on a weekday summer morning and walked all the trails except Parsons Point in about 2 hours. The best bird sightings (from a distance) were along the Shearness Pool. There we spotted egrets, herons, ducks, geese and shore birds. The Boardwalk trail is fun for watching fiddler crabs in abundance. Cover yourself in bug spray if you walk the trails. Also expect the towers to be staked out wiht wildlife photographers. Do visit the Visitor Center first to get the trail map and their suggestions on where to see wildlife that day. There's a daily visitor fee and restrooms mainly at the visitor center. Ample free parking with some EV charging spots.
Absolutely gorgeous!! It seemed like around every corner we saw something new and amazing. The year pass is well worth the price! Do not pass up the opportunity to visit! As a caution, definitely bring the bug spray if you go in summer. The green head flies were insane when we went!
I’ve gone here a few times with my family but recently went with a friend for their first time and we hit the jackpot! We saw two foxes right when we drove in but couldn’t get our cameras out in time. We saw lots of herons, geese and other birds. We stayed all the way til sunset and managed to see 8 foxes in total, as well as two beavers. The only downside was the crazy deer flies that attacked us every time we tried to go into the woods, but I guess that’s just because of the time of year since I’ve never experienced that before. Overall I would highly recommend to any animal lovers or photographers!
Beautiful area with areas to “birdwatch”…park & enjoy the refuge. Several trails to hike along, take in nature pretty much untouched. There are sporadic benches or picnic tables set up as well. You could spend hours here, so prepare. Also dress accordingly; some days the flies (and other insects) are out. Nature, folks!
I spent five hours at Bombay Hook and had a wonderful time. Beautiful place!
If you like birds and animals grab your camera and visit.
