(August 7, 2023, 9:12 am)Black Jax has great potential to be an Essex Gem. The food is delicious. The Popovers with smoked garlic is a unique and tasty treat. I live in the area and understand our working population for the service industry is dwindling, so the owner sadly has high turnover. The dining area is a bit packed in to maximize clientele which makes for a lively atmosphere, but the young novice staff struggle maneuvering around it.
With that said, don’t let this opinion deter you from visiting! It is worth the visit! If you have any issues speak up, our young folks can’t learn if we don’t teach them! The owner is more than happy to rectify an issues and your meal will always be exquisite. -

Detailed review:
All in for Black Jax! The food here is unfathomably delicious! We had to add Black Jax to our favorite list after the first bite of the appetizers. It makes us question our life choices, why we ever spend money at all the mediocre steakhouses that disguise as swanky establishments.
To start with, the "pop-over" bread came out piping hot with roasted garlic and butter. When we tasted the Shrimp Curry Dumpling Soup (Weekly Special) and 8 Wings (half Buffalo & half Cincinnati BBQ Sauce), we instantly fell in love. Our entrees was 16-oz Rib Eye (we added 3 sauces: Red Wine Demi Glaze, Smoke Garlic Butter, and House Made Steak Sauce), and we wrapped up the dinner with apple cranberry tart for desserts.
- Shrimp Curry Dumpling Soup: huge portion but we couldn't get enough! Creamy, fragrant, and mouth-watering with fresh sweet shrimp
- Wings: crunchy outside and juicy inside. Very well-seasoned 10/10
- Rib Eye (16-oz): extremely tender and tasty, with nice crusts and grill marks. What an umami bomb!
- Apple Cranberry Tart: this easily rivals some of the best bakery that we've been to! Came out fresh from the oven with crispy crust, chewy dough, very well-balanced with fresh apples, cranberry, and vanilla ice-cream.
- Rosa Regale: sparkling and refreshing. If I have a chance to go back, I will re-order this glass.
The host and our waitress, Evie, were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is cozy and very much in tune with the Black Jack theme. There is a bar on the other side of the restaurant, but it's not very noisy.

(June 18, 2022, 6:52 pm)I honestly rarely ever give five stars because something always goes array, but not tonight. This was a five star place, with five star tasty food and five star service. It started from beginning when we called to make reservations. Woman told us about handicap parking and honestly when I heard Black Jax Saloon I thought a dive bar atmosphere, but pleasantly surprised. It was beautiful inside and tables were nicely arranged. Nice Selection of drinks , Wine and Beer. When we arrived we were sat right away. The service was top notch, ontop of drinks, water, making sure we were happy at all times without having to wait for someone. They start you off with popovers with garlic butter. Yummy! I even asked to take some home. The food was absolutely delicious, tasty, flavorful. A totally REDO place. I cannot say not one negative thing about this place from beginning to end. Seriously need to come here to eat. Delish! Delish! We definitely will be back and spread the word.
Came back because we enjoyed it so much. Still 5 star night. Same waitress as before. Same great tasty food. Great atmosphere. Love when I eat at a place and its perfect beginning to end.
