My family and I have had an amazing experience at Arbor Terrace Mountainside. From the initial tour, the move-in, the day to day activities, to the caring and compassionate staff, the lifestyle has been incredible for my parents.
Joan Aranzullo, who guided us throughout the process, and who continued to watch out for my parents as they settled in, has now joined the staff at Basking Ridge. I have no doubt that she will provide the same exceptional care that she did at Mountainside, along with her co-workers.
Anyone would be lucky to make Arbor Terrace Basking Ridge their home.
I would like to express my greatest gratitude to Joan Aranzullo (Community Sales Director). She is the most kind and patient person that I have ever come across. She has spoken with the seniors from our town to help advise them and their families towards the right path. She has visited our Springfield center on numerous times and has always been helpful and courteous. Her gentle and kind ways has helped so many of us and we can't thank her enough! Keep up the great work Joan, and Thank you!!!
When it comes to finding the best possible place for your loved one to live, many places will show you beautiful buildings and grounds, fancy menus and lovely amenities. But if you’re talking about vulnerable, older adults, only one thing truly matters: the staff. And when it comes to staff, the most important thing is how they are managed.
This is why I can say with confidence that Kelly Adams is the best I have seen. She not only knows how to manage the physical parts of a facility well; she is expert with staff, families and residents. My father was in Arbor Terrace at Mountainside, and he was always treated like one of the family. Every staff member knew him by name and interests. When he was the only person to show up for exercise class, the therapist would run it anyway—like he had his own personal trainer. When he balked at taking showers, the staff collaborated to determine who could best serve his needs in a respectful, caring way. His room was always neat and clean. Maintenance requests were handled promptly. His meds and meals were served on time. His clothes were his own; no mixing in a group laundry, and nothing was ever ruined. The Wellness team alerted us when he seemed to be struggling medically. The front desk team often dialed his phone for him—over and over and over.
Dad felt so safe and comfortable that when family came to visit, he often didn’t want to leave. He preferred meals in the dining room to restaurants with us. He liked the afternoon activities more than going to the movies, which had always been his favorite afternoon jaunt.
And when he died, the staff was almost as broken-hearted as we were.
None of this happens by accident. It takes a smart, committed, resilient leader with a kind heart and a dedication to excellence to create the kind of culture that truly supports and respects aging individuals.
Kelly Adams doesn’t hire or manage warm bodies. She creates dynamic teams that perform with a level of excellence you’ll rarely, if ever, see anywhere else.
If you are able to secure a spot for your loved one in a place that’s under her supervision, you’ll be glad you did.
Kelly Adams, the Executive Director of Arbor Terrace Basking Ridge, was Exec. Dir. at Arbor Terrace Mountainside from 2018 through 2022. My mother was a resident of Arbor Terrace Mountainside during that time (and still is). I can’t say enough good things about my family’s experience. Unlike other assisted living facilities, each Arbor Terrace facility has THREE neighborhoods: Assisted Living (independent), Bridges (mild dementia), and Evergreen (advanced dementia). This is SUCH a good system. My mom started in Bridges, then moved to Evergreen as her dementia progressed. The neighborhoods feel very different, but the transition was seamless.
A.T. Mountainside has great nursing care, food, and activities, and I assume that A.T. Basking Ridge will as well.
The atmosphere at A.T. Mountainside is super-positive, and I give Kelly Adams a lot of credit for that. It’s been my experience that everyone working there genuinely cares about the residents. I mean EVERYBODY. They demonstrate extraordinary alertness, energy, dedication, caring, and compassion. During the scary early days of the Covid-19 crisis, they worked some serious magic to keep all the residents healthy. It definitely feels like the Arbor staff and my family are on the same team, working hard to take the best possible care of my mom.
Residents’ care is top priority, of course, but Kelly is amazing with us family members, too. She always greets us by name! She keeps us informed, and she is very approachable. Whenever I have a question or an issue, she is quick to respond. Even those impossibly demanding family members are treated with courtesy and warmth.
My Mother was one of the first residents to move into Arbor Terrace Mountainside, NJ since its inception in July, 2018. She has been in Memory Care for 4 1/2 years now and is thriving. For all those years, Kelly Adams was the Executive Director. When COVID hit, a year and a half later, she had the difficult and challenging responsibility to keep the residents and staff as well protected as possible from the spread of the virus. We were fortunate to have had her leadership and she did a great job. Kelly made tough decisions, which was not easy, and stuck to the CDC guidelines. She handled situations with diplomacy and professionalism. I would, (and do), recommend Arbor Terrace to others in need of a Senior Living Facility.
